Related Programs

Aside from the McNair Scholars Program, Sonoma State University has many wonderful programs and services that serve traditionally underrepresented students who are often the first in their family to navigate higher education. These programs support students by providing academic assistance and other support services that ensure academic success. We are grateful for their guidance and dedication and are honored to partner with them in championing our students.  

Mathematics Engineering Science Achievement (MESA)

The nationally recognized Mathematics Engineering Science Achievement (MESA) program provides academic support and a supportive learning community with the goal of increasing the number of historically underrepresented students who pursue and persist in STEM related degrees. MESA students engage in “high impact” experiences, such as undergraduate research, tutoring, mentoring, and leadership development.

The Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation

The Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP) is an NSF sponsored program designed to broaden participation in science, technology, engineering and mathematics disciplines and increase the number of students receiving baccalaureate degrees, and ultimately Ph.Ds., in STEM disciplines. LSAMP provides reimbursement for required STEM textbooks, reimbursement for GRE preparation courses and registration, reimbursement for travel to professional conferences and graduate schools, material support and stipends for students conducting research, and the Bridge to the Doctorate program available at selected CSU campuses.  

The Koret Scholars Program

The Koret Scholars program at SSU is made possible by a generous grant from the Koret Foundation. These awards are intended to support undergraduate students and their faculty mentors in research and creative projects across all academic disciplines  priority is given to applications that demonstrate diversity in the research workforce through the inclusion of students from groups underrepresented in higher education. The Center for Academic Access and Student Enrichment (CAASE)

The Center for Academic Access and Student Enrichment (CAASE) is comprised of six dynamic departments and support services. Through CAASE, students can find a variety of support including academic advising, expert tutoring, migrant education and support, disability support services, much more.  

TRIO Student Support Services is a federally funded program that supports underrepresented, first-generation college students who need academic assistance and other support services. This program consists of two TRIO programs: United for Success and the Multilingual Achievers Program (MAP), which supports the unique needs of multilingual students. 

The Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) provides access, academic support, and transitional services improving the retention of first generation, historically low income, and educationally disadvantaged students. 

Disability Services for Students (DSS) ensures equal access to students with disabilities by providing appropriate accommodations and specialized support services.

The DREAM Center at SSU supports and advances the academic, personal, and professional development of undocumented students and allies by providing a safe, centralized space for services and resources.

The Seawolf Scholars program provides current and former foster youth with advocacy, academic support, community building, and access to resources for educational success.
