About

Background:

Cydney is from South Central Los Angeles, California, specifically the Crenshaw District. Growing up with an incarcerated brother shaped her worldview and deepened her call to focus on systems of oppression and ethnic studies. Her research focuses on the intersections of incarceration, grief, and Black family dynamics, using personal experience to inform broader questions around justice, healing, and representation.
 

Research Interests:

Cydney's research grapples with the intersections of incarceration, grief, media representation, and Black family dynamics. Her work examines how systemic oppression impacts interpersonal relationships and emotional well-being, especially within communities affected by incarceration. Through her research, she aims to contribute to healing justice frameworks and advocate for more humanizing narratives around Black life and resilience.
