Diego Hernandez Altamirano
Biography
Diego Hernandez Altamirano is a first-generation college student studying psychology at Sonoma State University and the son of Mexican immigrants. His research journey began as a member of the inaugural cohort of the We The Future Fellowship at Santa Rosa Junior College, where he conducted a qualitative study examining the cultural and structural barriers Latinx students encounter when accessing campus mental health services.
His research interests focus on the relationship between mental well-being, academic and professional success among students from historically underrepresented communities. He plans to pursue graduate study in psychology, using research to amplify the experiences of underserved students and investigate how educational institutions can foster greater equity, well-being, and student success.
