About

Background:

Fernando transferred to SSU from Sierra College, a junior college located in Rocklin, CA. Growing up in a Latin American household, Fernando has always had a keen awareness of connecting with people through culture, and language. Those frameworks for understanding and exploring various elements of humanity studies are what originally drew Fernando to Anthropology.

Research Interests:

Fernando is interested in assessing inequalities in learning environments and relationships; how to navigate away from negative experiences as well as exploring inclusive pedagogical practices to enrich and improve learning culture and outcomes.

Current Research:

Working with Dr. Alexis Boutin, Fernando is assessing changes in individual diagnostic outcomes of patients buried at the nearby Sonoma Developmental Center. The Institution’s role was primarily to care for and treat individuals diagnosed with various grades of socially perceived intellectual disabilities.
