Mariela Gonzalez Hernandez
Major: Psychology
Faculty Mentor: Dr. Teresa Nguyen
About
Research Interests:
Mariela's research interests are centered on how different types of childhood trauma (emotional, physical, neglect, etc.) influence memory suppression techniques in the brain. Researching these differences can provide insight into how trauma alters cognitive processes and could potentially shape future treatments and interventions for children with PTSD and trauma-related disorders. Additional areas of interest include examining the psychological effect immigration status has on children and looking into the correlation between high ACE scores and executive functioning deficits in children and adolescents.
Current Research:
Mariela is currently a part of Dr. Teresa Nguyen’s Sonoma Marriage Lab. Mariela is helping conduct research to better understand the conditions that allow Latino couples to thrive in their relationships as well as the stressors that can challenge the stability of those relationships.
