Background: 

Vianca is proud to have been born and raised in the neighborhood of South Central in Los Angeles. As the daughter of Mexican immigrants who did not have access to formal education, she learned from an early age the deep value of attaining an education and opportunity. She draws inspiration from her father, who instilled in her a love for Mexican and Chicano culture, and from the vibrant city of Los Angeles itself, which continues to shape her identity.

 

Research Interests:

Vianca’s research interests encompass the sociology of Latinos/as, urban sociology, migration, culture, and the sociology of gender, race, and ethnicity. Her interests are driven by a desire to better understand her lived experiences and the world around her through the lens of sociological inquiry and reasoning
